City advises of temporary closure of Kommetjie drop-off

03 July 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate regrets to inform residents that the Kommetjie Drop-off site has been temporarily closed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. Read more below:

The temporary closure is to allow for the South African Police Service investigation after a private waste contractor attempted to dispose of a mortar at the site. It is not clear yet if the contractor was aware that what they had in their possession was in fact military ammunition.

In the meantime, residents can use the following alternative sites until the Kommetjie Drop-off Facility has been re-opened:

  • Coastal Park landfill – Baden Powell Drive, Muizenberg (No e-waste)
  • Prince George Drive – Prince George Drive, Parkwood (No motor oil)
  • Retreat – 10th Avenue, Retreat
  • Simon's Town – Blue Waters Close, Simon's Town
The City regrets any inconvenience.
